Do not use FreeWebDot.Com

Written by: Terry Reynolds This is not a malicious review, but a truthful account of my experiences with FWD over the past 12 months and I can backup everything I am about to say. It is my honest opinion that these guys are little more than thieves taking money for a non existent service and I am going to post this on every site I possibly can in order to warn people of the fraud that is being perpetrated by these crooks They initially offered a free hosting service which I used from June 2006 until it changed to a paid service in November 2006 following a supposed DDoS attack. Initially the service was acceptable and being cheap I decided to add another domain with them in March 2007. This is when the problems started. I tried for 3 weeks to get hold of support (see below) and to this day have not received a reply. In the end I had no choice but to write-off the hosting fees and host the new domain elsewhere. Because of the (now) non-existent support, I decided that when the remaining domain was due for renewal, I would transfer this away from FWD as well. Earlier this week I thought it would be a good idea to ensure that my credit card was not used to repurchase the domain fees, so I contacted 2CO.Com and asked them to cancel any recurring purchase arrangements for FWD, which they very promptly did. I assume they also contacted FWD and informed them because the next thing I know, our domain has been deleted from FWD’s server! This despite the fact I am paid up until November 2007. Whilst trying to get support for my original problem, this is what I managed to ascertain about FWD. They are based in the Czech Republic and are a reseller for a company called Ignum (contact helpdesk@ignum.cz) During my troubles with the second domain, I tried to get assistance from them but they refused point blank to assist even though the FWD forums were full of people screaming for assistance with domain problems. They obviously felt they had no moral or legal obligation to assist. Note: the FWD forums have since been removed, I assume because of the number of complaints they contained. I then tried to trace the contact information for the domain owner only to find out that it’s hidden behind the GoDaddy proxy service. I understand this is how most scam sites also hide their registration details, so this pretty much tells me all I need to know. Please do not use this host for your sites.

Support

Written by: jgm I registered 3 sites on freewebdot when it was free. After a supposed DDOss attack, the hosting changed to paid hosting, promissing better support and service. While the features are still cool, support is awful. Compared to other sites who sometimes answer your problems in less than 24hours, by email, with freewebdot, wich offers only forum support, you can be happy if they address your problems within a week if not at all. It you are building a site for fun and for your friends, freewebdot as an acceptable solution. But if you are looking for anything serious, I don't recommend it.

Written by: Russell Williams Joined www.FreeWebDot.com about 6 months ago, as they advertised free hosting, with excellent benefits. Knew it was to good to be true after 6 months they changed it to a paid services where user had to pay $4.95 a month. I'd say that this was their intention all along, and were just waiting for user to register many sites with them and become dependent. Bit of a cheap trick if you ask me.

Awesome free host

Written by: Chris Fuenty This is total ownage. I PAID for GoDaddy hosting and FreeWebDot is much better. Being a rather new service, I don't know how long this will last (no advertising, no donate button (i'd donate if they did had a donate button) But definally worth a shot :) --Chris
